Double Sorrow Double Joy, 2023 25 x 1 x 16 in, double headed sunflower from June farm (planted after Vermont floods), embalming thread, resin, dyed ribbon, wood
This work speaks to the non-dual relationship between love and grief. The double-headed sunflower was found in a field that was planted after the severe Vermont flooding of 2023. Sunflowers grow really quickly, so farmers planted them post flood to help recover mid-season. The abundance of the crop became a symbol of resilience post ecological and economic loss.
